College of Mathematics and Information Science(CMIS)consists of Department of Mathematics, Department of Information Science, Institute of Mathematics Research, Institute of Mathematical Education and Applied Mathematics Research Institute.There are two undergraduate programs, Mathematics program and Information and Computation Science program, with the former as the teacher-training and the latter as the non-teacher training. CMIS enjoys a mathematics Post-Doctoral Research Center and is authorized to award Doctoral Degree in Pure Mathematics, Master Degree in Mathematics and teaching methodology of mathematics respectively. Pure Mathematics is awarded as the key subject of ShaanxiProvince, and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is titled as the name brand major in universities of ShaanxiProvince.
There are 85 faculty members, among which are 75 professional teachers including 10 doctoral advisors, 17 full professors and 16 associate professors. Among the teachers there is one national expert with outstanding contribution, two awardees of university excellent young teachers, two of Huo Yingdong Education Foundation and six of Zeng Xianzi Education Foundation. 20 teachers are Doctoral Degree holders and 22 in-service teachers are candidates of Doctoral Degree. Presently 952 undergraduates and 336 post-graduates are enrolled in the college.
CMIS sticks to the aim of educating undergraduates with solid professional knowledge and excellent overall ability through advocating teaching reform and research. Recently CMIS has been awarded 2 national and 5 provincial excellent teaching prizes. During the evaluation of undergraduate teaching held by the university, CMIS has been awarded as the ¡°Excellent Teaching Unit¡± for 5 times. Great achievements have also been made in national mathematics modeling competition, with 2 national first prizes and 6 second prizes. The qualities of the graduates of CMIS are well recognized by the communities and the employers
CMIS has achieved much high-level research fruit in such fields as topology, uncertainty inference, operator theory and operator algebra, non-communicative algebra, differential equation, information science and computation. The past five years has seen the publication by teachers of CMIS of over 100 papers in SCI, 18 academic books and textbooks by High Education Press House and Science Press. Teachers from CMIS have taken part in two national key basic research programs(973) and one key program held by National Natural Science Foundation, hosted nine programs held by National Natural Science Foundation and two scientific research aid programs for university excellent young teachers. Two of the scientific researches have been awarded Science and Technology Progress Prize in ShaanxiProvince.
CMIS enjoys a library with various books, magazines and journals covering almost all subjects of mathematics, a computer laboratory with advanced equipments, a mathematic modeling laboratory and a communication laboratory.
