The Department of Food Engineering is the only second-rank teaching unit with engineering majors as the main body in SNU. The department has a faculty of 32, among them 7 professors, 6 associate professors and 1 senior laboratory technician, including 3 doctoral supervisors and national experts and 12 master supervisors. Together with two undergraduate majors of Food Science and Engineering and Food Engineering Teaching, the department also owns two master programs of Food Science and Agricultural Products Processing and Storage and two doctoral programs of Zoology and Plant Science. The students enrolled amount to over 400, among whom there are 376 undergraduates, 80 postgraduates and 10 Ph D student. Subordinate to the department are such branches as Shaanxi Provincial Agricultural Engineering Institute and Research Centre on Fruits and Vegetables Processing Technology.
In the direction of the integration of producing, teaching and researching, the department has undertaken more than 30 scientific researching projects, which are on the national, provincial or horizontal levels respectively. Many of the programs have achieved the awards of Science and Technology Advancement or national patent. It has published more than 30 scientific books or textbooks and issued more than 300 papers on both Chinese and overseas key academic periodicals. With many researching items proceeding to the leading level in China, the department has formed its unique characteristics in studying.
