College of History and Civilization (CHC), Shaan Xi Normal University originated in the Department of History and Geography at the beginning of the foundation of the university in 1944. The Department of History was set up independently in 1954, and it was combined with other related institutes in the university to establish the CHC in 2000. Now there are 27 professors, 21 associate professors, 25 full or part-time advisors for Doctor Degree candidates, over 300 master or doctoral students and 456 students as well. The CHC owns the Center for post-doctoral students in history, the authorization to award Doctoral Degree in the first-grade discipline of history and 3 more undergraduate's majors, , among which, the history education is the famous major. Having inherited the educational concept of solidifying the foundation, strengthening the disciplines, stressing the humanity and containing tradition in modernly, the CHC have cultured a great many talented people for the academic research and basic education. Besides, the CHC owns a group of qualified teachers, some of whom have accomplished great achievements and have gained high reputations in the varied academic fields such as Professor Shi Nianhai. Recently, more than 40 high-rate monograph woks have been published and a large number of papers have been published in the periodicals, for example, Social Science of China . The CHC have also conducted several State – funded projects of Social Science and Subjects for research at provincial and ministerial levels. The CHC has got many academic awards successively including Humane Social Science Award of Chinese University, National Award of China , Chinese Science Book Award, Wu Yuzhang Award and Shaan Xi Philosophy Social Science Award. Besides, 2 courses have been awarded as exquisite ones and history have come out top in the evaluation of all kinds of national disciplines.
