FOREIGN STUDENTS ADMISSION BROCHURE
OF
SHAANXI NORMAL UNIVERSITY
Since the
1960's the University has been admitting foreign students from many
countries. Since 1980 the University has been playing an active part
in carrying out china's open-door policy. Consequently, SNNU is pleased
to cordially invite foreign students and scholars to study and engage
in research on it's modern and well-appointed campus.
Programs
Offered
A: Regular
refresher Course
1. Long-term Chinese Refresher Class
a. Spring semester To be registered between the first and the fifth
of March.
b. Fall semester To be registered between the first and the fifth
of september.
2. Short-term Chinese Refresher Class
a. December Class Two or three weeks to study on campus.Commencement
date is flexible;this depends on student's resonable requests and requiements.
b. May class To be registered between the 20th of April and the 10th
of May for seven to ten day's study.
c. Summer holiday Class To be registered between the 20th of July
and the 10th of August for a study period of two or three weeks or one
month.
3. Cultural tourism Class This program is offered throughout the year.Each
class will consist of 3 or 5 day's study,mainly of historical and scenic
sites in Metropolitan Xi'an.Each class requires a minimum of seven students.
B: Advanced Refresher
Course
Courses to be taken and the duration will depend upon theappliction's
academic qulifications.
C: Undergraduates
and grduates Students for the Master's degrees and doctorates.
A four-year course for undergraduates,and a three-year course for
graduate students either for the master's degree or for doctorate.

B. Advanced
refresher course
Courses to be offered will be selected with refrence to the students
specialized discipline.
C. Courses
for undergraduates and grduate students for the master's degree and
doctorate.
The undergraduates are required to talk all the regular courses respectively
for humanities and science undergraduatesdepending on their major.courses
to be offered to gradustes students for the master's degree and doctorate
will be selected in accordance with their chosen discipline.
Eligibility
A. Regular
refresher course of chinese and chinese culture
Those of all walks of the life from any regions thoughout the world
who take an interest in chinese language and culture can be admitted.
B. Advanced
refresher course
Those who have proven capable of doing research on their own can be
admitted.
C. Undergraduates
Those with copies of high school diplomas and relavent qualifications
will be admitted first as preparatory undergraduates when all documents
are verfied. Then, those foreign preparatory undergraduates, who become
qualified up to the required grade of the HSK(Chinese Proficiency Examination
for Foreigners), will be accepted as undergraduates of the University.
(Humanities students are exempted from major examinations).When all
courses are compeleted, graduation certificates and bachelor's diplomas
will be awarded to those who qualify in all courses. Those who fail
the bachelor's degree may continue their study of chinese and other
related courses.
D. Graduate
students for the master's degree and doctorate
Letters of application must also include copies of undergraduate degree,
other relevant qualifications and recommendations from at least two
professors. Those who are considered to be qualified will be admitted
first as refresher students. Then, when having passed HSK examinations
and met the requirments of particular courses, they will be admitted
to the relevant master's or Ph. D. courses. When all the courses are
completed satisfactorily, students will be awarded master's degree or
doctorate. Students are also required to take a viva voce examination
. For those who fail their master's degree, or doctorate, opportunities
are provided for them to continue their study and research on the campus
as advanced refresher students.
Procedures
of registion
A. Foreign
students recommended by foreign colleges and universities and organizations
are to contact the Foreign Students Adimission Office of Shaanxi Normal
University.
B. The
individual applicant is to write away for a "Foreign Student Adimission
Application Form" and send it after completion to the University
two month before courses commence. When the application is approved,
"the Adimission Notice" and "the Foreign Student Application
Form for Study in China", ie, the JW 202 Form will be forwarded.
With the above-mentioned documents, the applicant can get an entry visa
to China and "the Foreigner's Health Examination Form" at
Chinese embassy (or consulate) in their countries. When the applicant
comes to register, he/she is required to bring with him/her "the
Foreigner's Health Examination Form", "the Admission Notice"
and five pass port size photos and to inform the University's Foreign
students Admission Office of the date of his/her arrival so that the
student can be met at the airport.

Other
Expenses
A. Accomodation
1. Foreign Student's
Building:
A south-facing room: US $3.5 per bed per day;
A north-facing room: US $3.0 per bed per day;
Both are equipped with heating, electric fan, bathroom, telephone,
televison set, Refrigerator, washing-machine, toilet and kitchen.
2. Foreign expert's
Buliding:
Single room: US $6 per bed per day;
Double room: US $5.5 per bed per day;
A partment room(with two beds): US $5.5 per bed per day.
B. Dining
Arrangements
Foreign students can choose to dine at the Foreign Guest's Dining
Hall, the student's dininghalls and the snack bars at their own expenses.
Provision can be made for the students to have meals provided for them;
currently this is about 6 US$ per person per meal.
C. Tours
Every two weeks, an urban or suburban tour (to Emperor Qin Shihuang's
Terra-cotta Army Museum, the Tang Dynasty Dayan Pogoda, Shannxi History
Museum, etc), and language practice will be arranged with free transportation
provided by the University. Meals and entrance tickets to such activties
will be paid by the students on their own. Tours to distant areas both
within and outside the province are to be arranged in consideration
of the student's requests. If students wish to embark on long distance
journeys, the University may be able to help with organizational matters.
However, all costs will be met by the students themselves.
