Shaanxi Normal University Library

　　Shaanxi Normal Universiy Library is the documents and information centre of the university. It has the largest collection among all insititutions of higher learning in Northwest China.Its collection amounts to 2,000,000 volumes with a total floor space running up to 13,700 square metres. The library has about 100 sophisticated equipments. It has a master's programme in ancient chinese bibliography.
　　The library collects rich books on literature, history, education, local chronicles and books of Taiwan and Hong Kong edition, thus forms its characteristic for containing books of art and science in ancient and mordern times. The constuction of document resources is carrying on combining with the specialities of the university. The library contains 240,000 volumes thread-bound ancient books including 600 titles of ancient rare books in 8,000 volumes. It has the most complete local chronicles and gathers 12,000 pieces of rubbing. The library gathers more calligraphies and paintings in ancient and morden among which there are many rare treasures.
　　The Northwest Comprehensive Date Centre was founded in Autumn, 1980 under subsidy of the North Amercia United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. And now it has fair size.
　　The state Education Commission allots 20,000 US dollars to our library every year for special fund of libaral arts using for purchasing books at study level in some concerned subjects. The library often gets donation from "Asia Foundation", "the Brige of America and China Foundation", "the Foundation for Books to China", "Buddha Education Foundation in Taiwan" , "Contrast Education Insititute in Taiwan", scholars of domestic and overseas. It has established exchange relationship of books and refrerence with about 100 libraries and acdemic insititutions.
　　The library has purchased many kinds of datebases fitting for speciality of the university, setup its own local aera network and realized the mordernization of acquisition, cataloguing, loaning and online information retrieval. It has already been connected to CERNET.
　　Shaanxi Normal University Library has become one that has rich collection and obvious characteristic of its kind in China.
